Why apply to the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law?

Degree Programs

To earn a JD, students must complete a minimum of 90 semester hours and graduate with a GPA of at least 2.5. JD graduates are eligible to sit for a U.S. bar exam.

The S.J. Quinney College of Law offers a specialized Master of Laws degree in energy, environmental, and natural resources law. A JD degree is required for application to the LLM program.

The S.J. Quinney College of Law offers a Master of Legal Studies degree. This one-year, 30-credit-hour program requires an undergraduate degree but no prior legal training. Graduates are not eligible to sit for a U.S. bar exam.

Global JD Program for Foreign-trained lawyers
To request applying as Global JD applicant, send an email requesting approval to Reyes Aguilar, Associate Dean for Admissions, at Enter “Global JD Applicant” in the subject line. In the body of the message, include the reasons you seek to apply as a Global JD Applicant. After the associate dean verifies your eligibility, you will receive a reply message indicating our decision for you to apply as a Global JD Candidate. If you are approved, you should then complete the regular JD application process.
