EVENT DESCRIPTION:

Join the Indigenous Women’s Leadership Network for a special two-part media training. Join Matt Moseley on March 6th (12-1pm MT) for session 1 and a discussion on communication strategies and how to be a stronger communicator. On March 13th (12-1pm MT) the discussion continues with session 2 and seasoned reporters, Felicia Fonseca and Luke Runyon, as they talk about how to engage with the media and reporters.

 

PANELISTS:

Felicia Fonseca is an assistant news director for The Associated Press, overseeing text, video and photo coverage for Arizona, New Mexico and Nevada. Previously, she covered Indigenous communities for nearly 18 years for the AP, along with the Colorado River, northern Arizona and New Mexico. Fonseca is a 2017 Nieman Foundation for Journalism fellow.

 

Matt Moseley is a communication strategist, author, speaker and world record adventure swimmer. He has spent his career at the intersection of public policy, business and government and has managed many public affairs projects and campaigns for organizations and companies. He is the principal and CEO of the Ignition Strategy Group, which specializes in high-stakes communications and issue management. He is the author of Ignition: Superior Communications Strategies for Creating Stronger Connections and Dear Dr. Thompson: Felony Murder, Hunter S. Thompson and the Last Gonzo Campaign. He has completed five first-ever record adventure swims and is the subject of two documentaries, Silent River  about the first ever swim down the Green River and Dancing in the Water about his 25 mile swim across Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans. He is the co-chair of the Colorado River Basin Council for American Rivers and serves on the Advisory Board for the Center for Leadership at the University of Colorado at Boulder. He lives in Boulder, Colorado, with his wife, Kristin, and their children, Charles and Amelia.

Luke Runyon is a journalist covering water and climate change in the Western U.S. for a collaborative network of public media stations throughout the Colorado River watershed. His position is based at NPR member station KUNC in northern Colorado. Luke has also reported for Harvest Public Media, Aspen Public Radio and Illinois Public Radio. He currently serves as the board president of the Society of Environmental Journalists. He’s a former Ted Scripps Environmental Journalism fellow at the University of Colorado’s Center for Environmental Journalism.
