A team of students from the S.J. Quinney College of Law recently received top honors at a transactional law competition.

Daniel Robinson, Eliza Burnett, Freedom Hansen, and Zach Marquez competed in the UCLA Transactional Law competition on February 25th. They won awards for Best Negotiation and Best Agreement.

The UCLA Transactional Law Competition offers law students an opportunity to practice drafting and negotiating a simulated complex business transaction. Student teams, representing either the buyer or seller, draft portions of the proposed agreement and then negotiate the terms with an opposing team. Experienced practitioners serve as judges for the competition.

The team was coached by JP Tarbutton, adjunct assistant professor and associate at Cooley LLP.

“The students acted, and were treated by me, like real transactional associates” Tarbutton said. “I’m incredibly proud of their hard work and representation of the school.  They will go into real-life practice ahead of the curve as a result of this experience.”
